IMG_2088-1024x768This year’s Pedal the Penobscot Ride was a great time! This annual event raises money and awareness for the Bangor Land Trust. Cyclists can choose to ride 100, 76, 50, 28, or 14 miles along the beautiful Penobscot River.

Bangor Land Trust has been a past host of Bangor Greendrinks, and they are a nonprofit trust dedicated to preserving, protecting, and creating public access to more than 700 acres of local lands, wildlife habitat, and mixed use trails in and around the Bangor area. From hiking to cross country skiing to birding to field biology-ing, Bangor Land Trust has you covered, right in our own backyard!

Bangor Greendrinks board members Greg Edwards and Carly Andersen teamed up to bike the 28-mile course for the event on September 13, 2015. Together they raised close to $400 for the Bangor Land Trust’s continuing work. Total calories burned during the event between the two of them: 2,008!*

Check out this beautiful upcycled piece of art made from a bicycle gear by Bangor Land Trust member and local artist Lynn Bolduc – a gift in appreciation for the fundraising efforts. Go team!

The Bangor Land Trust works hard, just for you – now get out there and enjoy the great outdoors at one of the preserves they manage! Trail maps and wildlife information can be found at their website, www.bangorlandtrust.org. If you missed out on this year’s ride, it’s never to early to start thinking about riding in Pedal the Penobscot 2016.

*Calories-burned estimate is really just a quasi-educated guess based on punching some random numbers (which only vaguely resemble Greg and Carly’s respective weights, pace, and time cycling) into a calories-burned calculator at www.bicycling.com.
