April 14: Greendrinks Stays Home

Published by bgreendrinks on

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Greendrinks isn’t holding its regular April event, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t come together through other means. On April 14th, crack open your beverage of choice, grab some snacks, and join us for an at-home event from 5-8 pm! This will be a passive event, meaning that there won’t be any interactive components, streaming of content, etc. Instead, we envision this as a time for reflection and virtual gathering. Please free to post on the Facebook event wall to let us know that you’re “attending” the event, to tell us what you’re sipping on or munching on, or just to say “hi.”

There will be two parts to this at-home event, with each respectively linked to one of our foundational pillars of environment and community. First, it will serve as a virtual kickoff party to a weeklong countdown to Earth Day on April 22nd that Greendrinks is coordinating with several partner organizations, including Hirundo Wildlife Refuge, Maine Science Festival, Maine Discovery Museum, The Briar Patch, Nibezun, Old Town Orono YMCA, and Mainely Succulents. In the week leading up to Earth Day, each organization will be featuring some sort of environmental content online, such as outdoor activities and story time. Greendrinks will be helping to amplify this content through our social media throughout the week, so be prepared for lots of updates! For our contribution, be sure to check out the free PDF version of our Bangor Area Trails map: https://bangorgreendrinks.org/map/.

The second part of this at-home event will be a virtual fundraiser to help out those who are being particularly affected during these difficult times. If financially feasible, we’d ask you to consider donating your usual $5 to Greendrinks (just click the “donate” button on the Greendrinks Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BangorGreendrinks/), and all of the money that we raise on April 14th will be passed on to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter and the Bangor Ecumenical Food Cupboard. We’ll also be selling hard copies of our Bangor Area Trails map for $5, with all proceeds going to the two organizations mentioned; to purchase the map, see our PayPal site: https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/2QABGAWQVGS26. And please feel free to donate directly to the organization of your choice, if you prefer.

The current situation means we’re all spending more time at home, but we get to choose what we do with that time. Join us for this at-home event from 5-8 pm on April 14th, when we can reflect on our relationship with the environment and do a little something to help out others in our community.

Cheers!
