Mar. 9: Maine Discovery Museum
March is when winter starts to lose its icy grip and Mainers begin to rediscover the joys of spring. It’s also when we usually have our annual event at the Maine Discovery Museum, along with the Maine Science Festival. It now happens to be the museum’s 20th anniversary, so join us for our next virtual event on Tuesday, March 9th from 5-8 pm as we celebrate two decades of discovering the joys of science in Maine. This event will be an online social gathering like the ones we’ve been doing recently.
The MDM has played a crucial educational role in our community over the last 20 years. As they note in their mission statement: “The mission of the Maine Discovery Museum (MDM) is to educate children and families, encourage creativity, nurture a sense of wonder, and to challenge all to learn in new and innovative ways. Exhibits and programs will be fun, interactive, and thought-provoking, and encourage participation by children and families of all abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a unique community resource, the museum will provide opportunities for exploration and discovery that incorporate aspects of Maine into a greater understanding of the world in which we live.” For more information: https://www.mainediscoverymuseum.org.
There’s also going to be an opportunity for you to win a $25 Buoy Local gift card! Everyone who likes and shares the MDM’s intro video featured on the event page by midnight on Thursday, March 11th will be entered for a chance to be the randomly selected winner of the gift card!
We also love it when you let us know that you’re attending the event! Be sure to post messages, photos, and short videos on the event wall to let us know that you’re attending.
And if you can, please help support the MDM financially. As noted in their video, the pandemic has been hard on their ability to generate revenue through attendance. If we want this incredible community resource to be around for many more years, it needs our support. If feasible, we’d ask you to consider donating your usual $5 to Greendrinks, and all of the money that we raise on March 9th and for a few weeks after will be passed on to the MDM to help finance their important work.
We’ll also be selling hard copies of our Bangor Area Trails map for $5, with all proceeds going to the same organization; to purchase the map, see our PayPal site: https://www.paypal.com/instantc…/checkout/2QABGAWQVGS26….
Finally, be sure to watch when the Bangor Greendrinks Chair, Mark, goes live for “the talk” around 6:30 pm on March 9th. This is the “Facebook Live” portion of the evening.
See you at the next virtual event when we celebrate 20 years of scientific discovery and highlight the important work of the Maine Discovery Museum.
Cheers!
